Mukesh Ambani’s net worth estimated at $54 billion

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos retains top slot among 10 with $147 billion

February 26, 2019 – India’s richest individual Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, now figures in the top 10 richest people in the world as per the ‘Loong Palace Hurun Global Rich List 2019. Coming in at No.8 globally, he is the first Indian to achieve this position, and currently, also the only Asian in this year’s list. The world’s 10 richest families are worth $780 billion.

Ambani family is No.8 richest in the world

His net worth is estimated at $54 billion, increasing 20 percent in a year. The report states the he added $30 billion in the last seven years, and his brother Anil Ambani lost $5 billion, from $7 billion seven years ago, coming in at $1.9 billion this year.

S.P. Hinduja, ranking No. 40 globally and No.2 in India, has an estimated wealth of $21 billion. Azim Premji, at No. 57 globally and third-richest in India, followed by Cyrus Poonawalla and Laxmi Mittal, globally ranked 100 and 112 respectively.

Globally ranked No. 129 Uday Kotak is India’s sixth richest, followed by Gautam Adani, seventh richest in India, ranking No. 157 globally. Sun Pharma’s Dilip Shanghvi is eighth richest in India, followed by Cyrus and Shapoor Mistry.

 Jeff Bezos is World’s richest man, worth $147 billion

Jeff Bezos of Amazon, with a net worth of $147 billion (based mainly on the market price of Amazon stock) retained the top slot for the second year running. In one year, he added $24 billion to his fortune.

Others among the world’s 10 richest

Others in order of wealth (Nos. 2 to 10) are Bill Gates, worth $96 billion, Warren Buffett, worth $88 billion, France’s Bernard Arnault, worth $86 billion, Mark Zuckerberg, worth $80 billion, Carlos Slim Hilu and family of Mexico worth $66 billion, Armancio Ortega of Spain worth $56 billion, Sergey Brin, worth $54 billion, and Larry Page, worth $53 billion.

For the first time, Cyrus Poonawalla of Serum Institute has broken into the global top 100 with a net worth of $13 billion.

China now has 658 billionaires, 74 more than the US

A total of 2,470 individuals figured in the list with a total wealth of $49.5 trillion. Of those, 658 are from China, 584 from the U.S. and 117 from Germany. A record 430 billionaires dropped off the list in 2019, and of that 52 are from India.

“Since 2012, this is the first time that India has slipped to fifth rank in the List. An underperforming rupee and lackluster stock market resulted in India losing one third of the list,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, managing director and chief researcher at Hurun Report India.

“Hope to see a revival after the elections, which could bring in a much needed clarity on the continuity of the Indian government’s policies,” he added.

Beijing now world’s billionaire capital, with 103 billionaires

As per the report Beijing emerged as the hub of the rich and famous with 103 billionaires hailing from that city, as compared to 92 from New York.

While China has 658 billionaires, down by 161, India has 104, down by 28. Among India’s billionaires, 42 are residents of Mumbai, 25 from Delhi, and 9 from Bengaluru.
