This fourth edition of the American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) Certification Review has been extensively revised from previous editions. This current edition covers all the current knowledge and skills (KSAs) for the certifications of the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), the Certified Health Fitness Specialist (HFS), and the Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist (CES).
The material in this book was contributed by the four editors named above plus 19 other authors who are specialists in their fields. This makes the book very “authoritative” (pun intended). The material was also reviewed by 14 other experts in various areas of sports medicine.
This book contains three main sections that are very practical and useful to the people intending to get certification and get their first job or add to their existing qualification. Those sections are:
Case studies that involve both multiple-choice questions as well as open-ended discussion questions are divided by certification level and domain. There are 30 case studies and 10 accompanying ECGS in this book.
Job task analysis (JTA) tables that contain a detailed breakdown of all the KSAs by
certification level and domain.
Practice examinations, one for each certification, contain 100 multiple-choice practice questions with answers and explanations. At the end of each exam, a table indicates which questions in that practice test correspond to which domain(s).
You will find some advice in the Preface of this book on how best to study for a certification exam. Purchasers of this book will find additional resources that are available on this book’s companion website. Click on this link to access those resources:
