Book Review by Nano Khilnani
This is a wonderful book. I read it thoroughly from cover to cover, including the mini-reviews on the back of it. It is easy to read and understand. The title is also attractive. The use of a new word by Marsha Friedman, one I have never seen anywhere before – “celebritize”- reflects absolute brilliance. Whether it was the author or the cover designer who decided to use this word in developing the title for this book, it does not matter. Whoever it was deserves kudos, because it compels the book shopper to grab and buy it.
Who does not want to be a celebrity, with the chance to become a millionaire? You can even find self-fulfillment by contributing your knowledge to people to make them more successful. Who would not want that as well? Everyone would. Well, on second thought, not everyone has high-enough self esteem to make the decision to become a celebrity.
The word “celebrity” immediately conjures up an image in my mind of a gleaming, smiling Hollywood star, in bright lights, with flash bulbs popping rapidly. That image of a celebrity however, has changed over the years. It is not just people in the movies who reach the pinnacle of their career.
In almost every field these days, there are celebrities. That gives you, whatever you do, hope to become a celebrity. An obscure housewife out there, who discovered how to clean this or that item easily or to do odd household chores, saving money, time and effort, can become a celebrity. Marsha cites the case of Erma Bombeck, who got her start to becoming a celebrity by writing a newspaper column. She got paid a measly $3 for each that was published. She also gives the example of Julia Child, who transformed her love of French cooking into a large enterprise selling millions of cookbooks.
Another item that attracted me to read the book was the phrase “three-step method” in the title. Really, just three steps and boom, you’re a celebrity? The huge skeptic that I am, I said to myself: “This is probably just a blurb to sell books.” You know what, when I looked inside the book, I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that Marsha Friedman’s method really and truly is a simple three-step process to become a celebrity!
What are the three steps, you may ask, to become a celebrity? Well, get the book now and read for yourself. Marsha does show you that the steps to become a celebrity are indeed simple. But that does not necessarily mean they’re easy. You see, there’s a difference between “simple” and “easy”. It is simple to become a doctor. Just go to medical school and study. Is it easy? That’s for you to answer, depending on your dreams and desires.
The opposite of “easy” being “difficult,” I will tell you however, that, based on the numerous real-life unknown people she has come across and propelled them to fame and fortune, it was not that difficult either for them to become celebrities. You see, the difficulty lies only in our minds. Once you make a sure, strong determination in your mind that you want to become a celebrity and benefit from all the good things you can get and give to people, simply follow the three-step method outlined and detailed in this amazing book, and you’re on your way.
One of the chief values of this book is that it is a useful and practical guide in helping you assess your potential and make your decision to be a celebrity. It makes you think and impels you to write down your thoughts on the so-called “who, what, when, where, how, why” questions on forms provided in the book itself. These exercises help you take stock of yourself, look inside your mind and do a careful self-examination. What are your strengths and weaknesses? These are valuable keys to your success, the book shows you.
Being in the publicity business herself for a couple of decades or so, Marsha Friedman helps you make the various decisions – the turns and the twists, so to speak – on your road to becoming a celebrity. But two things you can be sure of: she has used the same three-step method in helping people become celebrities, and it has never failed, once they made the firm decision to get on that road and stay on it to its destination and beyond.
Marsha Friedman has written a very enjoyable and effective book that counsels, motivates and guides you to fulfill your dreams and make them a reality through what I believe is the fastest and most sensible route available to you: one that makes you a celebrity. Get it and go through its treasures.
