This is “a beautiful, balanced and thorough tome that addresses a growing need in neurosurgery,” according to Dr. Edward Benzel, who wrote the Foreword to this book. He is chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery in the Neurological Institute at the world-famous Cleveland Clinic.

This book has been developed not only for those preparing to take the board exams for neurosurgery as well as those seeking recertification in this medical specialty, but also as a refresher course and reference manual for established neurosurgeons. I believe most of all, residents will benefit greatly from this book.

The field of neurosurgery, like many other fields within medicine, is a rapidly-growing one, and for anyone who wants to be more effective and useful in his or her practice, keeping abreast of new discoveries and the results of the latest research studies is a must. This second (2016) edition presents much new material that was not in the first edition that was published in 2003.

This book contains 805 questions presented in multiple-choice answers format, with five choices on each question, laid out on 167 pages, constituting 68 percent of the contents. Another 76 pages contain the answers in a single line up to 15 lines, constituting 31 percent or almost the rest of the book. So there is hardly any fluff, enabling you the student to ‘dive’ right into the questions and their answers, without wasting any time.

Some of the questions present images, enabling you the reader to better understand the questions. The range of questions in this book are diverse and cover the entire field of neurosurgery and its various-sub disciplines. You will also find questions and answers on anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology as they relate to neurosurgery.

Imaging of neurological conditions sometimes cannot present a clear picture of the problem and its cause. Correct diagnosis and effective treatment is critical to optimum care of the patient. Review of the material learned in medical school and residency training is provided in this book to test your knowledge and its confirmation and validation. This is an affordable, compact and valuable book.
