The use of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a rapidly-growing treatment option in many different cases and instances worldwide, a number of which are presented below as the book’s un-numbered chapters in its Contents pages. Research on this modality is coming out weekly, the editors write in their Preface, and a large body of knowledge now exists in this aspect of the growing specialty of regenerative medicine.

Our bodies have a natural healing process involving blood, bone, tissue, and other components parts. In this unusual book on this still not-widely-known but highly beneficial use of PRP, the editors and authors of the various articles present a variety of cases of its use in many different situations. The chapters of this book listed below will serve to give you an overview of this book’s contents:

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma and Its Growth Factors: The State of the Art
  • PRP as a Therapeutic Agent: Platelet Biology, Growth Factors and a Review of the Literature
  • Preparing the Soil: Practical Cellular Biochemistry for Regenerative Medicine
  • Challenges and a Feasible Strategy for Studies and Standardization for Platelet-Rich Plasma
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma and Tissue Engineering
  • PRP Therapy in Orthopedics, Sports Traumatology, Literature Review, Evidence, and Personal Experience
  • The Use of PRP Injections and Stems Cells in an Office Setting
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma Practical Use in Non-Surgical Musculoskeletal Pathology
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma: Clinical Experience
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma in Ligament and Tendon Repair
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma in Osteoarthritis
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma in the Ambulatory Therapy of Tendinopathy of the Elbow, Knee, and Foot
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma and Biocellular Grafts
  • Disc Regeneration with Platelets and Growth Factors
  • Use of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Treating Chronic Wounds
  • Use of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Orthopedic Injuries
  • Rehabilitation after Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections for Tendinopathy
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma on Pain Management
  • PRP Experience in MOR Institute: Brazil

Jose Fabio Santos Duarte Lana, one of the four editors of this book, writes that he was “delighted with the possibility of stimulating healing through the use of an anabolic-autologous environment with minimal risk to the patient” in a lecture by Dr. Ramon Cugat from Spain, when he attended the World Congress on Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine in Buenos Aires in 2006.

After returning to Brazil, he and the other editors of this book and Joyce M.A. Bizzachi enlisted the help of the University of Campinas and its professors who set up a project involving basic and applied sciences. That university has now developed a PRP research center due in large part to the efforts of these five individuals.

Material is presented in this book in an organized fashion, with each chapter having the following:

  • Abstract
  • History and / or Origins
  • Discussions of various topics
  • Consensus or Conclusions
  • References

Black-and-white and full-color charts, micrographs, photos, tables, x-rays and other types of images are used throughout the book to make it easier for the student or practitioner to understand what is presented in the text portion of the chapters.

Books on the subject of platelet-rich plasma are rare, and this one is quite comprehensive and thorough in its coverage. This is an excellent addition to the library of anyone interested in learning more about, or practicing regenerative medicine.
