Arthroscopy of the shoulder, a minimally-invasive technique of discovering, observing, and fixing a prevailing problem inside this part of the human anatomy, has become increasingly popular, just as other forms of noninvasive or minimally invasive surgeries. This field of surgery has seen much expansion and marked improvement.

In this instance, instead of cutting open a section of the shoulder, a small (about one inch) incision is made, through which the surgeon inserts one end of the arthroscope, to enable him or her to look into the shoulder and determine the next course of surgical action.

Shoulder arthroscopy is a little over just 30 years old, with the chief editor of this book Dr. Stephen Snyder writing in his Preface that he vividly remembers one day in November 1982 when he first “viewed and marveled at the magnificence of the glenohumeral joint with an arthroscope.”

Unlike today (as you will see in the pictures provided in this book and online) there were “no good means to support the arm, distend the joint, or perform even the most basic surgical manipulation,” Dr. Snyder details. What he saw on that day “was a life-changing experience for me.”

This book covers many aspects of shoulder arthroscopy, as shown below that lists its chapters. It is one of the best sources of information available on this type of surgery. You will be able to learn much from this book – with words and images – on procedures and techniques used in the various types of surgery involving the shoulder.
