This book is unique. It focuses on a complicated, inter-related set of problems relating to the nasal and oral regions, the solutions to which, the editors and authors named above write, are not found in any other combined resource elsewhere, other than this book with text and images, and its surgical videos.

Drs. Giovanni Felisati and Matteo Chiapasco write that this book and the accompanying videos shed light on “a complex set of clinical problems spanning different areas of clinical and surgical expertise.” They have ”taken advantage of their unique experience to give birth to an original textbook drawing a much-needed map of a territory previously uncharted by the specialist literature.” This book provides answers to those dilemmas related to diagnosing and treating sinonasal complications.

The solutions to the problems covered in this book are beyond the coverage of study programs relating to these specialties, they point out. This book presents multi-disciplinary approaches to frequently-encountered complications. Twenty-one doctors in Italy (twenty in Milan and one in Brescia) wrote the seven chapters of this book, namely:

  1. Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathophysiology of the Paranasal Sinuses
  2. Imaging of the Maxilla and the Paranasal Sinuses
  3. Paranasal Sinuses: Complications Following Dental Pathologies and Treatments
  4. Microbiology of Odontogenic Sinusitis
  5. Medical Treatment of Odontogenic Sinusitis
  6. Surgical Treatment
  7. ENT Contraindications to Maxillary Sinus Grafting Prior to, or in Association with Oral Implant Placement

Surgical Videos: In addition to the information in the seven chapters named above and the 302 full-color and black-and-white illustrations within the 146 pages of this book, you the purchaser of this book can also view 16 videos of surgeries as part of their overall learning process. This book presents 360+ case studies, including patients who have undergone surgeries for sinonasal complications of dental disease and treatment, including:

  • Failed maxillary sinus augmentation procedures
  • Fungus balls
  • Oroantral fistulae
  • Peri-implant osteitis with sinusitis

To give you an idea of how the topics in each chapter are covered, these four elements are present in each chapter:

  • Chapter Title and bylines
  • Contents Overview
  • Topics and Subtopics presentations and discussions
  • A Key Points box towards the end of the chapter
  • References

A great feature of this unusual book is the large number of images that help you learn and understand the various cases presented and discussed. These consist of computerized tomography (CT) scans, drawings, photos, radiographs, and tables with data.

This is really a one-of-a-kind, highly valuable resource for dentists, forensic dentists, orthodontists, otorhinolaryngologists, otolaryngologists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons, especially those who have encountered the problems we briefly mention in our first paragraph. In this unique resource (book and videos) you will find preventive multidisciplinary approaches for ideal outcomes, as well as post-operative solutions to complications resulting from oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
